These are the kinds of pictures I see in social media these days. I have even posted something like this but I deleted it eventually after having meaningful conversation with some people I respect a lot. I have had some realisation of my stupid behavior that day. I wanted to share that feeling.
Who are Police?
They are the people like us but they serve to maintain law and order, protecting us and our property. This is the simple explanation of describing a police officer.
But the kind of stress, they go through is not as simple as this.
Consider yourself in a situation where you are teased by someone or some group of people. They act in a proper way and they seem to act mean with you causing you trouble. Your whole day and your mood will be ruined because of that petty act of some stranger. You will be stressed out for that.
If you felt some kind of stress imagining that, then you will realize that level of stress is the minimum amount a police officer will have a day.

Police have to deal with thieves, robbers, murderers, people who involve in all sorts of crime, people who do not obey law and mainly they have to deal with people who do not respect them. But who are those people who don’t respect them? We are.
Go on, call me anti-indian, not a people friendly person and a person who doesn’t have humanity for supporting police.
When I see a movie or some pictures or videos of someone dead because of murder or accident or some gross death scenes, I feel nauseated at the sight even when I am not seeing it for real. Imagine the situation police have to deal with, the place that gives nausea is their workplace.
Beating up people is wrong, but when you want to find your missing jewel beating up a suspect is not wrong?
Beating up a suspect who kidnapped your daughter or son is not wrong?
Beating up a suspect who killed someone is not wrong?
During the early days of corona lockdown, we heard many news of people beaten up by police. But that was the period when people were afraid to come out for unnecessary reasons. Were they afraid that they might get corona? No, they were afraid that they may get caught by the police. Some people who want to go out and just gossip, started spreading that police are being brutal during these days.
Police were forced not to beat up people who come out with false reasons, then the corona rate increased drastically.

Our police department fought in many ways to prevent us from getting corona. All they got in return was “#policebrutality”. They found new and innovative methods to make people stay at homes, all they got were trolls.
A video of police officer begging people to get back to their homes went viral. People appreciated that police officer. Is that what we want?
Police begging every individual not to commit any form of crime. I agree beating up people is wrong.
Consider another situation in your own home, when your mother or father is stressed out for some reason. You commit some mistake, we get beaten up by them. We realise what we have did is mistake and eventually we go and apologise to our parents.
But if police beat us up for committing a crime or a mistake, we degrade them. Tell me some incidents where we appreciated police for all the work they do. There may be some incidents but very rare. But tell me examples were we degrade police. There are numerous examples even in movies.
They are depcited as fat, corrupted people but in reality I don’t see many fat police. Everyone I have come across are fit.
I saw a video people sharing in social media, where a boy with his parents got beaten up. The reason is that he didn’t have his license and other documents. It is against law. So the police got hold of that boy’s bike. Have anyone noticed that the boy was not respectful to the police right from the beginning? How is the police supposed to react to that boy? How will you react when someone is not even respectful to you but you are there to do your duty? It is sad to see the boy’s parents. With the kind of stress the police are going through these days, they are prone to such actions.
Suddenly there are many videos in social media against police but those videos start only after the police start reacting. Why would some human shout at you without any reason of trigger?
According to United Nations Standard, there should be 230 police for every 100000 people but in India that count is only 125. I got this number from the official website of Maharashtra government. Can you even imagine the kind of work burden the police have?
I am not supporting the police who are responsible for the death of victims. But what I am not supporting is the fact that we are turning this against the police.
If a doctor commits a mistake which causes death of a patient, then will we degrade all the doctors. Don’t generalize this act based on the profession. They might have been killed due to the people who are police but not only because of they are police.
If they started beating them up, they might have triggered their anger in someway. It was due to personal feelings like anger, frustration or ego. If those people were not police, this would have been another news in 8th page of our newspaper. We would not have noticed this.
Why sudden hype for this case alone?
Do you know other people who died like this? Can you atleast name anyone of the cases? Why didn’t you ask for the justice of other people who died during police custody?
Because during this lockdown, we don’t have nothing much of a news. We start hyping every such issue. If this has happened during our normal life without corona crisis, we might even not have noticed this issue. We would have other issues to look like the shopping offers, film relases, trips, or sports.
I appreciate the humanity of everyone wanting justice for the dead. But what I want is justice for the police department. I too want the police responsible for the death of the victims to be punished but I want people to stop addressing them as police. They should be addressed guilty for committing murder irresepctive of the profession.
Do they have enough holidays like us? Do they have enough workforce to handle all the work they have? According to me, they have the most stressful job in the world. Do they atleast have occasional therapist sessions? Do they have enough time or activities to let go of their work stress?
Or atleast do they have our appreciation for doing their job so well protecting us?
I was talking with a friend of mine who is a police officer. He said that he has not been to his house during this entire corona crisis situation and working in a place which is not his hometown. He is still on his duty and not been to his home. When I asked the reason that why didn’t go home, he said that he didn’t want to get his family members affected with virus if he had any.
He is 22 years old. Imagine the number of police officers with the same situation. They are working their lives out even though they are aware of the lofe threating risk. But that is what they have been doing all through their work life. We appreciate doctors for the work thwy are doing once we get affected and for curing us. We don’t appreciate the police enough for preventing us from such things like accidents, murders, and now this virus.
I mentioned a friend above, he was disturbed when I posted against the police. He explained it to me from police point of view. That’s when I realized how sick of me to blame the police department for the mistake of two people. Their profession may be police but they were humans acting out afterall.
There may be police officers who you know, they may be your relatives, friends or parents of your friends. Imagine how posting police are worst would affect them. What if police start thinking like this,
Whatever we do, however we struggle to keep them safe people are going to blame us after all, I will go to my house and only keep myself and my family safe. Then imagine the situation of our state.
I am not asking you to stop raising your voice against the death of those 2 people. If you really want justice, then
1. Raise your voice against all such murders committed by anyone not just police. Don’t you want justice for other innocent people who die?
2. Create hastags like #justicefor… but never creaye #punishthepolice or #policebrutality. Please don’t mention the police term and mention guilty. If those people were doctors or other professionals, we won’t be creating such hashtags degrading the whole profession.
3. If you really care, get into social services sector and serve people. Go to a position from where you can stop this.
4. Don’t ever post memes against police for not beating up guilty of high profile cases. You answer your own question in that meme. When police are getting pressure from their higher officials, when their jobs or even lives are at stake, then how will they beat up such people. Deep down they want to punish them, but thinking practically about their family, they choose not to. Will you do if you are a police?
That case is now taken over by CBI. It was a brutal death. This post is not to justify that death. I know that you are posting things against police because you are afraid that something like this might happen to you or to your family or friends. We don’t blame all the riders for an road accident. We don’t blame all the doctors for a patient’s death in operation theatre. But why are we blaming police for one such incident?.
Let the “guilty” be punished. Justice will be served to the dead and also some humanly treatment to other police who are working tirelessly.
Salute to every single police officer who are doing their duty to protect us. Thank you police!
